A sandwich-making experience - Modelled by teacher first
Pupil spreading butter - Teacher scaffolds the vocabulary used
Pupils discuss about the various fillings in a sandwich - Again guided by the teacher
Yippee!!! Sandwich completed. Well done!!
A follow up writing called the Class Dictated Writing will be completed. The teacher writes out the story together with the pupils. She guides them and elicits responses from her pupils. She scaffolds the language for them.
The next day, the opportunity is given to the pupils as they will embark on Group writing.
Finally, the pupils are encouraged to complete their own individual piece of writing.
The teacher will furthur challenged the pupils now to write on their other experiences similar to the one that they have been exposed to.

This is a high quality example of an LEA. Having the experience first and encouraging the children to write the sequence in their own words is an effective way of building language skills. Thank you for sharing. I will use this example with pre-service teachers.
